The British aristocrat Mary Isabel Portman decided in 1913 with a single glance that she wanted to build her castle here. The Arts and Crafts movement was the inspiration behind the design of this special country house style property. The British spirit is still alive today because the London designer Ilse Crawford furnished the wellness hotel. With his humour and chic, the whole thing is reminiscent of the “Soho-Houses” with their oversized floor lamps, Arne Jacobsen
Armchairs, tables by Eero Saarinen and bubble lamps by George Nelson framed by walls with rich colors. After a day in the wellness area, there are many ways to relax: In the games room, in the fireplace rooms or at the bar. Everywhere you can enjoy beautiful views of the Wetterstein, Karwendel and Zugspitze mountain, forests and flower meadows. The Kranzbach is a world of its own in the middle of a nature reserve. For those travelling alone, the three-course menu is also available at one of the large “communication tables”.
The tasty new, modern and light-flooded annexes blend perfectly into the landscape. But if you want it more unconventional, choose a room in the “Mary Portman House” with high ceilings, playful wallpaper and canopy beds.
